Companion Critic exists to answer one question without fluff: which AI companion app deserves your money in 2026. Here is exactly who is asking you to trust that answer.
How we work
Every app in our top-10 ranking gets held against the same five criteria: feature completeness, chat quality, content freedom, access and pricing, and character variety. The full breakdown, including how we weight each one, lives in our methodology. Three working rules sit on top of it:
- Hands-on, criteria-based. We compare products against a checklist, not against marketing pages, and every factual claim on this site should be checkable against the platforms themselves.
- Scores are editorial. Every score you see here is our team's opinion, labeled as such. We publish no aggregated third-party ratings, no invented user counts, and no fake testing statistics.
- Updates on a cycle. We re-check rankings and comparison claims regularly and stamp the visible "updated" date whenever a page changes. Prices and features drift; the page should not.
Corrections policy: spot a stale price, a feature we got wrong, or a rival we sold short? Email contact@companioncritic.com. We review every report, and errors get fixed, not buried.
Who we are
This site is written and maintained by the Companion Critic Editorial Team, operated by the team behind Swipey AI. We are not going to invent staff names, stock-photo faces, or a fictional office to look more independent than we are. The people who compare these apps are the people who build the one ranked first, and that fact is printed near the rankings, in the footer, at the end of every article, and here.
